Week of December 4th-8th

Dear Families, Estimadas familias,

Happy Thursday!  We are looking forward to a busy month, so here’s the news for this week!

1.  The Muscota Annual Appeal is underway!  Now is the time to make a tax deductible donation to your school; $50 per family will allow us to meet our goal!  We are currently at 16% of our goal of $12,000, with 25 families participating.  We have over 215 families in our community, so now is the time to participate! Please share the link with your extended family and ask them to remember Muscota in their year-end charitable giving.   We’ll distribute more information about corporate matching for donations later this week.

2.  Calling all artists!  We have a few folks lined up for our Annual Winter Arts Pop Up & Games Fair, which will be held on Saturday, December 16 from 12-4 PM, in the Muscota cafeteria. This year is a bit different, as we’re combining the Arts & Crafts Market with the beloved Muscota tradition of “Game Night.”

Week of November 27th-December 1st

Dear Families, Queridas familias,

With December beginning at the end of this week, and the descent into the holiday season, we have lots and lots of news, so please bear with us as we share with you the following:

1.  The December Parents’ Association Meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 13th at 6:30 PM.  We hope that you are able to attend!

2.  The Drama Committee is looking for Playwriting Mentors (no experience necessary!). If you were unable to attend this morning’s meeting, but still would like to help, please click here to learn more, or email Dayna directly at dbeegun@muscotanewschool.org. Week of November 20th-22nd

Dear Families, Queridas familias,

Even though we are enjoying a shorter school week this week, there are still plenty of announcements for you before the Thanksgiving Break.  I bet you are so excited!

1.  Annual Appeal Reminder:  We ask that you remember Muscota in your end of year giving, and please spread the word to your extended families and communities.  If each family contributes $50, we will meet our fundraising goal of $12,000!  This year’s Annual Appeal funds will go, in part, to supporting the amazing after school programs like Chess & Coding Club that are in desperate need of funding.

Our specific goals are to:
 – Create a second Coding Club session for the Spring semester
 – Fund assistant teachers for (and possibly an additional session of) the wildly popular Chess program!

In addition, Annual Appeal funds will go towards funding the Arts Programming (Music, Visual Arts, Drama & Dance) that is an integral part of your child’s education at Muscota.

Donate now as part of our annual appeal

There are so many things that make Muscota a unique and wonderful place for our children: a broad Arts program that includes music, dance, drama and art; passionately dedicated teachers and staff; events that join and celebrate our community and our families; and so much more.

As the holiday season approaches, and thoughts of thanksgiving and togetherness are on our minds, we launch the Muscota Parent Association’s (PA) Annual Appeal. This year, we are asking each family to include the Muscota PA in your end-of-year charitable giving (as a 501c3 non-profit organization, your donations are tax deductible). Our fundraising goal has significantly increased to $12,000. We can reach this goal if each family or extended family contributes $50 to the Annual Appeal.

Week of November 13-17

Dear Families, Estimadas Familias,

SO MANY THINGS to tell you this week!!!

So, without any further ado, let’s get right into the thick of it:

1.  REMINDER:  Our monthly Parents’ Association meeting will be this Friday, November 17th at 8:35 AM in the cafeteria.  We will be discussing the development of an onsite after school program for the 2018-19 academic school year.  If you are interested in helping to create an affordable, high-quality AFTER SCHOOL program for our community, then please attend this meeting!  It is crucial that we get as much parent involvement as possible (which is why we are shouting in ALL CAPS).

2.  Family Conferences will be this Thursday, November 16th, beginning in the afternoon.  Student dismissal will be at 11:30 AM.  This is one of our beloved progressive practices at Muscota, and provides an opportunity to talk with both your child and teacher about their progress, to set goals, and to see their recent work.  Your teacher or class parent(s) may have already reached out to you regarding meeting times.  If in doubt, give your teacher or class parent a shout! Week of November 6-10

Dear Families, Queridas familias,

Welcome to November!

Although we have no big events looming on the horizon, we are steaming ahead with our committees, so if you are itching to get involved, here’s your chance!

1. Last Wednesday morning, the Diversity Committee met, and there were 11 parents in attendance. Camille shared a presentation from New York Appleseed, which is a schools-focused social justice organization, and we discussed the district-wide initiate to increase school diversity, as well as how Muscota should participate. It’s clear that we need a lot of parents to help with outreach to expand awareness of the school, and support the diversity of next year’s kindergarten class. That will be the focus of this committee for the rest of the school year. Next meeting date: TBD (but will be in December).

Week of October 30th-November 3rd

Dear Families, Queridas familias,

What a great weekend we had!

Thank you to those of you who were able to attend the Mad Hatter’s Ball on Saturday night!  We raised over $5000 for our school, and are so thankful for everyone’s participation!  Thanks to our volunteers and those who donated food & cakes, and those of you who showed up for a good time!  We hope you had an enjoyable time, if you were able to come, and if you weren’t, we hope to see you at our next event!

We’re honestly all a little tuckered out after the hullabaloo, but there are a few things we wanted to share this week:

1.  SLT election results from the last PA meeting – Carolynn Herrera was elected as the newest member of our School Leadership Team (SLT).  The SLT is responsible for developing our school’s Comprehensive Educational Plan (CEP), and includes parents, teachers, and administrators.  Welcome, Carolynn!

We hope that you are planning to attend what will be a lively fall festival, and, if so, that you are considering volunteering! Which brings us to our announcements:

1. Volunteers are needed for the Mad Hatter’s Ball this coming Saturday! We are trying to be as specific as possible with our needs, so that folks who sign up are clear on their roles and time frame needed. So don’t be daunted by the massive list! 🙂
